Remarkable attention to detail
I have personally know David Nadolney since early 2000. I have also known David as a Builder, local business man and even an accomplished Chef. David was a prominent builder in the Heights when I first met him and was building expensive home in the Houston Heights long before it was fashionable. His work was interesting to me because his attention to detail is intense and his mill work remarkable.
The first house that I visited was on Cortlandt, a coveted street even then and was exceptional in the sense that each room had his finishing touch that I had rarely seen with other builders a nice home and WOW property. David’s properties were always WOW homes.
In addition to the quality of the construction, David has a keen sense of design. He understands how a home should function but with a flair that makes it interesting. It has been such a pleasure to work with your company. From the beginning of the process we felt that you both took a personal interest in our project and our family’s needs. We had no idea how much was involved to accomplish our dream renovation. We met with several salesmen from various builders, but none of them were able to come up with the creative solutions that you did. We can hardly express how much time that we saved obtaining several estimates on your blueprints. We interviewed several design build companies before deciding who was a good fit for designing our new-multi generational home. We had a long wish list of things we wanted in our design. Then we met David for the first time at the last BIA show in January. He listened to our needs and understand our budget. David expanded on our ideas and created an awesome floor plan and exterior design. We are THRILLED with our final plans and anxiously awaiting our permit to start construction.
Saving my family’s home
Saving my family's home was an obvious decision for my husband and I after my grandma passed away. Not only were we saving it from foreclosure, but we were saving this 1950's, termite eaten, molded plantation home that only Wahiawa weather can bring.
What do first-time home owners do?
Call David Nadolney of Open Concept Designs. He brought our vision to life, while keeping the warmth of our original plantation home that would make my grandma feel proud.
Who knew that table legs and lighting could bring to life our kitchen island? He turned our small, rotted out kitchen that could only fit 2-3 people at a time into our family's new hang out. His design made it possible for my parents to finally cook together and our family of 10 to eat together with ease.
David's design changed our life and were grateful.
One can't argue that in order to do this, you need an amazing team. His design is his reputation, therefore they must be reliable, hard-working, and ethical. We got just that with Howard Kunimura, one of the contractors whom David works with to materialize his designs.
Renovation can be stressful, and costly. Something my husband and I have nothing to compare this experience to as first time home owners. I've been told by many in the business that we had one of the smoothest renovations. This is because of David and his team. There are no words to describe how filled our hearts are with gratitude.

I am writing to provide our testimony regarding our experience with David Nadolney and his company, Open Concept Designs, over the past two and a half years.
Prior to engaging the services of David my wife and I had three prior architects that we engaged in designing a new home in Hawaii Kai. Our experience was very frustrating and disappointing as we spent several thousand dollars and went through many plans and revisions before terminating their services. Much of the problem was that we felt the architects were more interested in advocating their ideas and concepts than taking into consideration what we wanted and were comfortable with. Each architect had different ideas and perspectives of what they thought would meet our needs but did not seem to consider what fit in our lifestyle and likes.
We were fortunate to meet David at the BIA Home Show and were attracted to his low-key approach in discussing our situation and prior experiences with the other architects. He offered to meet with us at our home to get a better understanding of the “lay of the land” and to discuss what we wanted in a new home design. We were impressed with David’s patience and understanding of our situation and was able to address our issues. He was open about his recommendations and provided sound reasons for them. There were some conflicting ideas, but David never tried to impose his ideas or concepts on us. Instead, he always tried to accommodate our wishes into his designs and offered several different approaches to making out wants work to make the house more flowing and cohesive.
It has been a pleasure to work with David and to hear his ideas and recommendations whenever we have a new “idea” that we wanted to incorporate in the house plans. He does not discourage our input but does point out issues and problems that make our ideas would cause or affect the design of the house. He has been open to new ideas and is able to make recommendations to ensure that our ideas are practical and affordable.
In short, we are pleased with our relationship with David and are more than satisfied with the quality of his work and his dedication to meeting our needs in designing our new home.
